Earlier in the year, I shared some goals for 2020. Obviously, 2020 took a turn that none of us expected. I haven’t updated since February since it seemed somewhat shallow. But as we start creeping back to normalcy, I decided to update. You can see my original goals here and my January recap here.
Fitness and Wellness-Ha! Yes, this was going very well until mid-March. Emotional eating anyone? Too much couch time? There were several weeks that was somewhat like Christmas break for me. At the start of May though, I started trying to get back on track. I’m happy to report that I didn’t gain the COVID 19 pounds but I did gain back what I’d lost of my holiday weight. I’ve been doing yoga, trying to eat better and all those things and I hope to have a good report for July.
Read 30 books. I’m rocking this one! Right now, I’m on book 17 for 2020. To be honest, I had trouble concentrating on reading at the start of the stay-at-home phase. I also picked some stinkers that were hard to care about. I started using the Libby app last month and have read a few good ones and I’m getting into summer beach read mode.
Read 6 faith based/spiritual books. I read It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way by Lysa TerKeurst. I didn’t love it but it was okay. This puts me at 2 of 6 for the year.
Social media break from 5pm to 8pm. This went out the window because of the world events around me. Recommitting to this one in June as social media became toxic quickly from about Easter onward.
Weekly meal plans/prep. I’ve actually done okay with this one. I’m mostly using Instacart for groceries so it requires some thinking ahead and planning. I just bought these meal prep containers and have a plan to prep some healthier meals for next week.
Try one new recipe per month. I have been cooking quite a bit. Most of what I’ve tried have been from the Magnolia books including beef stew, lemon pie, peach cobbler, chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins. Comfort food, yes?
Blog one new recipe per month. That didn’t happen mostly because of laziness and because I was cooking other peoples’ recipes.
Develop/stick to a cleaning plan. This has actually improved since I’ve been working at home. I try to do a few little chores during my lunch break or throw laundry in early. It’s helped free up the weekends a bit.
Find a tv show that I like to watch. I finished Sanditon on Masterpiece (Season 2 please! #SaveSanditon). I’m also halfway through Season 2 of You. I watched World On Fire also on Masterpiece. It was not easy viewing at times but it was interesting and honestly, quite timely.
Send a handwritten card or note to someone each month. I haven’t kept track of this but I have sent some thank you notes and sadly some sympathy cards during the last few weeks.
Looking back at this, I have to say I’m somewhat proud that I have stuck with what I’ve stuck with. The last few weeks (months?) have definitely been different but they haven’t been all bad. I’m thankful that I’m still employed and that I’m able to work full time from home while taking care of my son. I’m thankful that we have remained healthy and safe. I do not take for granted the fact that we have remained relatively unscathed up to this point.
I hope all of you have had some spots of sunshine in 2020 and that our future plans will still come to pass.
